'SCIENTIFIC' APPROACH STIRS ALAN ALDA'S SPIRIT.(TELEVISION)

If it seems a cliche to state that learning can be fun, Alan Alda is living proof that it's true. The "M*A*S*H" veteran is a long-time science buff, and he's expanding his knowledge of that field as the new host of the recurring PBS series "Scientific American Frontiers," which presents its second edition of the season Wednesday.
