Vic: Police to investigate fight with disabled teenager

A violent struggle between police and an intellectually disabled teenager at the Victorian
town of Moe will be investigated by the police Ethical Standards Department.

Assistant Commissioner NOEL ASHBY says two officers were called to parkland near Dinwoodie
Drive in Moe about 3pm (AEDT) on Wednesday, after complaints from local residents that
a person was exposing himself.

Mr ASHBY says the strongly-built 15-year-old refused to respond to questions from the
police officers and would not provide his name.

He says the situation rapidly moved to violence, with the teenager and a female officer
suffering minor injuries in the scuffle.

Mr ASHBY says the officers learnt the teenager was intellectually disabled after his
mother came to collect him from the scene.

He says the Ethical Standards Department will investigate the incident.
